Vision and Ethos

At St Peter's, we are committed to creating a calm, safe and inclusive environment where every child can learn, achieve and flourish. Positive behaviour is fundamental to effective teaching, learning, wellbeing and safeguarding.

Our approach is underpinned by the school's REACH values of Resilience, Excellence, Ambition, Captivated Learning and Happiness and our school rules of being Ready, Respectful and Safe. These values and expectations provide the framework for behaviour across the school and support children in becoming confident, responsible and compassionate members of society.

Behaviour Principles

Behaviour practice at St Peter's is founded on the belief that every child has the right to feel safe, valued and included within their school community. We recognise that positive behaviour is most likely to develop when children experience strong relationships, a sense of belonging and consistent expectations.

The school acknowledges that behaviour is both a learned skill and a form of communication. Children's behaviour may be influenced by developmental factors, emotional well-being, relationships, SEND, life experiences and wider family circumstances. Whilst maintaining high expectations for all pupils, staff seek to understand the factors influencing behaviour before determining the most appropriate response.

Behaviour support at St Peter's is characterised by:

• high expectations for every child;

• consistency in adult responses;

• positive and respectful relationships;

• explicit teaching of behaviour and learning habits;

• proportionate and restorative responses;

• early intervention and inclusive support.
